second week special

Tonight starts the second and final week of Monomoy’s run of “Man of La Mancha.” I’m pretty excited to see what the second week will bring in terms of spontaneity and surprise. I think that’s why I love playing musicals, because I firmly believe music should be a unique experience every time. Music Theatre is fun you get to experience those slight changes rapidly one after another. I think it makes you a far better musician being able to interpret and digest those changes as you play a run of the show.

I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far, the quality of musician is very high, and the acting, singing and dancing is extremely great. Everyone here is so talented, and its so rare these days to see a situation where a bunch of artists get together to create something. It’s really special.

Also the idea of consistency is really a factor in this situation. I mention above that each experience should be unique but cracked notes are not music. Ebb and flow yes – transposition errors not so much. Consistency is all mental – and a fair amount of breathing. I felt myself today just pushing myself to “just breathe.” When I breathed I was golden and kept my wits about me but when I accidentally launched my squirt bottle consistency of articulation especially was torn from me.

Lastly there are some beautiful roses here at the theatre. Enjoy!
