l’histoire du soldat

On August 5, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival presents Stravinsky’s L’histoire du soldat, conducted by Ransom Wilson, choreographed by Katie Stevinson-Nollet and the Full Force Dance theatre, with narration by John McDonough. The Soldier’s Tale was written in 1918 and features a septet of violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone and percussion. This small compliment of winds is used because of the low numbers of musicians during wartime. McDonough spoke yesterday of how the piece characterized the war and the great loss of life that was felt throughout the world. He particularly emphasized the the triumphal march of the devil, the final section of the piece.

This concert should be streamed online, and as always can be seen live at the Music Shed in Norfolk CT. The streaming will be audio only. Enjoy!
